What do you look for in applicants?

Like a real startup, The Start is self-driven and you are primarily accountable to your team members and coach. Therefore, we gauge how committed you will be during the bootcamp and how serious you are about learning.

How much experience do I need?

All experience levels are welcome. Our participants range from professionals with years of experience to college students with only a business class or two under their belts. We simply gauge how passionate and committed you are.

How much does The Start cost?

Our goal is to make The Start as accessible as possible, so the cost to participate is only $275. Once you’re accepted, you’ll be sent a link to submit payment and confirm your seat. If for any reason within the 1st week you are unsatisfied, you will be issued a full refund.

Also, we have a limited number of scholarships for applicants who aren’t able to afford the tuition. Please apply and then email us to inquire further.

Can I work or study full-time and still participate?

Absolutely. The Start is designed for working professionals and is part-time. You should expect to spend 5 hours a week for 4 weeks on weeknights and weekends during the bootcamp.

Do I need to be located in a certain city?

The Start is fully online, so you can join remotely from anywhere in the United States and across the world. In fact, we have already had students from all over the globe participate.

I don’t have any ideas yet, can I still participate?

Yes. You are not required to bring your own idea to participate in The Start. In fact, during week 1, you will go through exercises with your team to come up with a new idea.

Can I work on my own idea during The Start?

Yes. Working through your own idea during The Start is a great way to evaluate if it’s worth pursuing. Either apply with others who want to work on the idea with you or pitch it to the team you are assigned to. If you prefer, you can work on your idea solo.

How are teams formed?

With participant input, we form teams of 3 to 4 co-founders based on several factors such as preferences, experience levels, complementary skill sets, interests, and time zones.

Can you team me up with my friends or colleagues?

Yes. In fact, it's a great way to test how well you can work together in a real startup. After everyone has applied, email us and we will assign you on the same team.

What kind of resources do you provide?

We will tell you what your specific milestones are on a weekly basis and guide you with curated lectures, articles, and coaching sessions to hit these milestones.

What should I expect from the coach?

Your team should expect 1 hour of time per week with your coach to get feedback and guidance on your startup. You will also get guidance from the founder of The Start and be able to reach out to other participants.

Will I get to interact with other teams?

Absolutely. After customer discovery, each team will present their findings over a live video conference. Also, you’ll be able to reach out to other teams and participants for support during and after the bootcamp.

I’m not available for the upcoming session, can I apply to a future one?

Not a problem. Go to the Apply Now page, fill out the application, and indicate that you are interested in a future session.

What kind of computer do I need to have?

Any desktop and laptop that can run Google Hangouts and Google Docs should do. If possible, your computer should have a microphone or webcam.
